Welcome to Chester – Walking Tour and Afternoon Tea
Arrive in Chester by train and after dropping off your bags at your city centre hotel you will be met by your personal guide for the afternoon and begin your private walking tour of Chester. Walk in the footsteps of the Romans and follow the city walls around the city, taking in historic sights as you go. Take time to look at the Eastgate clock built to celebrate the diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and also the second most photographed clock in England (after Big Ben!).
Once you have finished your walking tour your Guide will drop you off at The Chester Grosvenor Hotel for the ‘Finest Afternoon Tea in Chester’. Relax in elegant surroundings and enjoy a scrumptious selection of finger sandwiches, scones and French pastries.
Then, the night is yours! Check in to your hotel and see what Chester nightlife has to offer.
Cathedral and River Cruise
Your first stop this morning is Chester Cathedral where you will join the award winning Tower Tour. The tour will take you behind the scenes and through 900 years of history that deliver an incomparable level of public access.
As you make your way down to the river, stop and take a look at the Chester Roman Gardens, a peaceful garden created in the 1950s to showcase some of Chester’s remaining Roman artefacts.
Then, board your afternoon cruise down the River Dee. This leisurely trip will allow you to discover parts of rural Cheshire and Chester and if the weather is nice you can enjoy the view from the sun deck of the boat.
Tonight, enjoy dinner at one of Greatdays’ recommended restaurants, whether its Michelin star fine dining or more traditional pub food, Chester has plenty of options to choose from.
After dinner, why not add a Ghost Tour to your trip! Hear spooky tales and spine-tingling stories about Chester’s mysterious and dark past, if you’re brave enough!
Shopping and The Rows
After breakfast, its time to hit the shops. Chester is famous for its wide variety of quality shops, unique boutiques and individual retailers. We suggest heading to The Rows, unique galleried walkways that run along the four streets and meet at the high cross. The Rows are filled with shops, cafes and bars and they are completely unique and nothing quite like them exists anywhere else in the world!
Then it’s time to catch your afternoon train back to London.
