Itinerary Summary

Day 1

Travel to North Wales via Chester.

Arrive at Manchester International Airport, where you will be greeted by your driver-guide and whisked off to North Wales via the Roman city of Chester. Stop in Chester for coffee or lunch and take a stroll through the city centre, taking in the timber buildings of The Chester Rows. Arrive late afternoon in the walled town of Conwy. The town is dominated by its imposing castle which presides over the estuary of the River Conwy. After checking into your hotel, you will have the rest of the day to explore this historic town by foot – look for the fisherman’s cottage on the quayside, the Smallest House in Britain. Overnight in Conwy

Day 2

Explore Wales.

Travel along the north coast towards Anglesey for a morning visit to Caernarfon Castle, where Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales in 1969. Then drive through the Snowdonia National Park to Porthmadog for lunch, followed by a quick visit to the Italianate village of Portmeirion. Return to Conwy via Betws-y-Coed (visit Swallow Falls, time permitting) and the Vale of Conwy. Free evening.

Day 3

Vale of Clwyd then on Stratford-upo-Avon.

In the morning set off on a scenic drive through the beautiful Vale of Clwyd in Denbighshire, as you make your way down to historic Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. After checking into your hotel, you have the afternoon free before enjoying an evening performance at the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Overnight in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Day 4

Warwick Castle and Shakespeare’s Elizabethan England.

Today includes a morning visit to Warwick Castle which celebrates its 1100th anniversary this year. In the afternoon return to Stratford-upon-Avon where you can spend the rest of the day exploring the city and visiting the Shakespeare Houses where the costumed interpreters will transport you back to the life and times of Elizabethan England. Overnight in Stratford-upon-Avon

Day 5

Blenheim Palace and afternoon in London.

The picturesque Cotswolds and magnificent Blenheim Palace beckon this morning. Drive south into Oxfordshire and the quaint village of Woodstock to visit nearby Blenheim, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough. Late afternoon will see you in London and once you have checked in there is the rest of the day and evening free to enjoy our amazing capital city. Perhaps you might consider spending your final evening at the theatre or opera (optional).
