The North of England is a region of contrasts, from the architectural and industrial heritage of the world-famous cities of Manchester, Liverpool and York, to the spectacular scenery of the Lake District and Peak District. In this eight-day tour, based in Manchester, we combine the opportunity to discover the city’s proud history in science, politics, music, arts and sport, with a choice of days out by train to destinations including Chester, Liverpool, York and the Lake District.

Fly to Manchester

Arrive at Manchester Airport where your personal driver will transfer you to your city centre hotel.

Manchester

Experience Manchester (includes a guided walking tour)

Enjoy a two-hour guided walking tour of Manchester city centre and discover the story of Manchester’s industrial past. In the afternoon, why not visit one of the city’s fascinating museums, including the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, the National Football Museum, or the Manchester United Museum at Old Trafford.

Chester

Discover Chester (including walking tour and river cruise)

Spend a full day exploring the historic city of Chester, famous for its Roman walls and ‘The Rows’, the remarkable 700-year-old, two-tiered shopping galleries.

Liverpool

Explore Liverpool (including Mersey Ferry cruise and The Beatles Story)

Spend the day in maritime Liverpool, the home of The Beatles. Take one of the world-famous Mersey Ferries for a spectacular view of Liverpool’s waterfront, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lake District

Tatton Park

Magnificent Tatton Park Estate

Visit Tatton Park, a wonderful combination of 50 acres of gardens, 1,000 acres of landscaped gardens, and Tatton Hall, a magnificent neo-classical mansion. The home of the Egerton family from the turn of the 18th century to the end of the 1950s, the Mansion now houses one of the National Trust’s finest libraries and offers a complete view of life in days gone by.
